IRC
WebWatcher's "Ideology" is simple. We believe that IRC can, and should
be, a kinder place for all who enter its ever growing communities. Many IRC
networks, contain rude Administrators, IRCops, Channel Operators, hackers, pedophiles,
bashers and the basic run of the mill up to no good abuser of the IRC network's
systems. We believe that by working together, or at minimum understanding that
there is another point of view, that we can all make the IRC networks of the
world a better place for all.
So
many IRC channels have web sites on the "World Wide Web" that go above
and beyond the call of duty in the services that they provide to their channel
guests. Just operating a channel is NOT good enough for these talented people
who strive to expose IRC to an ever growing population of "newbies,"
and to offer them a welcome and helping hand. It is these people who create
their web sites not only to stamp their exsistance in the minds and memories
of the Internet, but to aid, entertain and inform their guests, Channel Operators
and the general public alike. Rather it be an adult trading channel, a teen
chat channel, or a help/special interest channel, IRC contains a world still
unexplored by a great deal of the world's Internet audience. By exposing IRC
to the world, these IRC channels, through their web sites, are making IRC one
of the fastest growing and rapid changing forums in the world.
Without
a doubt, most people are on IRC to have fun, to meet people from all over the
world and from all walks of life. However, there are also those that through
their own unhappy nature, are only happy in making others as unhappy as they
are. If you are the type of person that when a new guest, or "newbie,"
enters your channel you reach out to them, make them feel at home, can offer
some advise/guidance, or just help them to type IRC commands, then you and the
IRC WebWatchers share the same idology, and we want to hear about it. If your
IRC channel has a web site, we want to see it, and we would love to reward your
efforts to the worldwide IRC community. We feel that by exposing the kinder
side of IRC to the world, you have extended your hand and as such, we feel that
it is YOU, your channel, AND your web site that will make IRC a better place
in the future for its growing audiance.
There
are also web sites, that although they do NOT promote an IRC Channel or network,
they do provide the users of IRC with handy utilities, chat clients and defences
against those unhappy people on-line that would do them harm. IRC WebWatchers
would also like to know about them, and to reward their contribution to the
IRC community, as it is by the hard work of these talented individuals that
IRC is made both safe AND entertaining.
IRC
WebWatchers supports ALL web site's position, rights and responsibility to protect
children/minors from abuse AND exposure to adult material(s). We DO NOT support
spam of ANY kind, and especially that which is adult in nature that is sent
to people whose ages the spammer is not sure of. We support adult IRC sites
that DO NOT display graphic or offensive nudity (child pornography, bestiality,
teen/preteen sex, family/incest.....etc.).
We
support ONLY those adult channels on IRC networks who have Channel Operators
and whose Operators ask their guests for their age, and monitor their guests
joining "objectionable content" channels. IRC WebWatchers panel of
judges may visit BOTH your web site AND your channel on IRC to insure that what
these channels say on their web site and what they practice in their channel
are indeed within our ideology. If our judges believe one or more of your Operators
has been of exceptional assistance, the IRC WebWatchers may also issue you an
award for your Channel Operators as well. It is the Channel Operators of a channel
that make or break it. They insure that a channel is around for a while, or
insure that it is just another brief blip on the monitor of IRC.
